Another action packed weekend for the team. We had people all over NY with some solid results.
Tour of Catskills

Sunday August 7th Cayuga Lake- Olympic Distance Triathlon
Going into this race I was feeling great, well trained and ready to go. The past years I had always done the sprint distance and hated the swim. This year I went for the Olympic and was ready to tackle the waters. In past years the water was always choppy and rough. And the weather this year was forecasted as yuk! Luckily race day weather improved and the thunderstorms and rain subsided. As I looked at the calm waters I was super excited. The swim starts and I had picked my position perfect. No interruptions the whole way. (only a few chunks of big weeds) Got out of the swim with my best time in this distance.
I started the bike feeling super strong. Until mile 4 when everything went wrong. The explosion from my tire scared the crap out of me, luckily I got under control and came to a stop without crashing. At this point I knew my race was over. But what else to do but get it fixed and get back out. So I did just that, of course not without struggling with my wheel/tube! So a little longer than I had hoped for but got going and tried to see how many people I could catch.
Finally I get back to transition and go out for the 2 loop 10k course. It is a great trail run that loops by beautiful waterfall. Which I love. First loop great, second loop stomach pains and disappointment take over. Guess this just wasn't my race. I finish 5th in my AG.
But this is racing. And this was the first flat I had ever gotten in a race, so I guess it was my time.
Team member Bob Gramling represented Team Bikeway.com with a great 1st in his AG!
until next time..

Nautica NYC Olympic Triathlon
Steve Boer cooling off after meeting his goal of sub 3 hours!
Racers were postponed for 45 min because a drunk driver flip a vehicle on the West Side Highway bike course. This was the start of a tough and slow day for all competitors.
The Hudson, inflicted with wind from an approaching thunder storm, churned the 3,000+ competitors like a washing machine on "Heavy Spin". After a .5 mile run to transition, athletes had to contest over wet and slippery roads. Fortunately the roads were freshly paved or patched. Once turned around, a stiff headwind threw cyclists from side to side across the road. Last up was a hilly run through Central Park. Luckily all Team Bikeway.com members finished unscathed and we immediately greeted by Team Members Vic Ruiz and Karen Simmons with a fresh cold towel and some Cytomax.
Final results:
13 of 22 (Pro Men) Justin Harris 1:59:00
92 of 387 (M40-44) Dave Heady 2:36:03
12 of 143 (F40-44) Kelly Heady 2:45:39
249 of 389 (M30-34) Steve Boer 2:56:22
9 of 35 (F55-59) Vinni Schek 3:09:53
BROOKLYN: Prospect Park
Declan Nicholls took on the challenge of racing back-to-back CAT 5 races down in the city. Day 1 saw Declan sitting at the back, conserving energy and ultimately placing 4th overall. Day 2 was wet and after missing his warm-up and getting caught between the lead group containing the series leader and the chase group, Declan finished in the main group.
On that note:
If anyone is interested joining Declan in the road race on Saturday at Prospect Park, Brooklyn. There are about 15 to 20 cat 5 spots still open, cat 4, men 1,2,3 and women 1,2,3 are all wide open. The bikereg link is below.
