Yeah, so Saturday's "group ride" was a fun one. For the first few miles I tried to hold it back and keep us all together, but when Lukas took off on Todd Hill that was it. I can't resist a good drag race down that road and Colin jumped after us, and of course Rob and Tony Santomassimo were alert and not about to let us go, so before we knew it, it was down to the 5 of us. So there I was, sandwiched between the "old guys" Rob and Tony killing it on their road bikes and the "kids" drilling it in their aerobars. Let's just say there wasn't anyone backing off on that ride.
Afterwards, I managed to put on my sneakers and shuffled out for a "run" down Airport Road and back in my continued efforts to prepare for the Vassar Duathlon. Yesterday I did a brick with the run first, and I can't tell which transition is worse! Incidentally, I just got the e-mail with my bib number and it looks like there will be a whole bunch of Team Bikeway.com members and friends racing the Vassar tri: Mark Andrews, Elena Barnett, Raphael Bingert, Maria Bochinis, David Fernekes, Shawn Jackson (defending champ!!), Carly Johnson, Chris LaTuso, Jay Murray, Adam Ritter, Vic Ruiz, Vinni Schek, Michelle Stathers and Sam Train; and Lori Cassia-Decker will be joining me in the duathlon.
On the results front, team member Michael Koch put in a great race at the Timberman half Ironman, where Caitlin Martin and Ellen Elias were also racing. See Michael's race report below. Caitlin also had an awesome race, finishing in 5:29, and Ellen put up a great 6:33 as well.
Lukas Siska finished well at the Slovakian National Tri Championship, his race report is below. Also, Woodsy has posted another couple of great race reports, see below. Looks like he's going strong, with a lot of racing still planned for the season.
On Sunday, Mike and Tony Tanzi went down to NYC and dominated the biathlon in Central Park, getting 1st and 3rd, respectively. From the results, it looks like Mike was flying through the transitions and put in two really consistent runs to win by over 30 seconds. Also racing was our new friend Raphael, who comes to us from France via Colorado, finishing 11th overall.
Tony, who is coming back from a little incident with a pickup truck only a week ago, is training through for the Syracuse half-Ironman on the 19th.
Besides everyone who's listed for the Vassar race and Woodsy and Tony, other Team Bikeway.com members whose upcoming racing plans I know of are Colin Martin, who is planning on the Toughman half Ironman next weekend, the DC Classic half marathon the 19th, the Bassman half Ironman on October 3rd, and the Miami marathon in January, and Caitlin Martin who will also be doing DC Classic half marathon, the Vermont 50K on the 25th and the NYC Marathon on November 4th.
Also, it may be getting chillier but we'll keep going with the Saturday morning rides. I won't be around for the next two Thursday evening rides, but of course all are welcome to come out for a couple of loops. Make sure if you're going to be out there early or late to stop by the shop for a light for your bike.
Finally, mark your calendars for the Darkness at 909 Halloween night MTB race on October 30th. if you haven't experienced this race yet, as either competitor or spectator, you don't know what your missing!
