Tony Tanzi-
Sunday I ran in the Nutmeg State Half Marathon located in Washington Depot, Connecticut. When I registered for this race back in January it was to use as a training run to build towards the Rev3 Half distance triathlon in June and I was not planning on running a PR. The weather was in the 40’s with rain, not exactly ideal running weather. The pace early on was a slow comfortable pace for me and I just hung with the lead pack. At mile 4 I was itching to break loose, but held back as there was still plenty of running to do. At the 7 mile mark I went for it and opened up a 2 minute gap before mile 10. The course had some out and backs so it was good to be able to see exactly how far my lead was. Due to the first half of the race not being tremendously fast, I stopped looking at my watch and was more concerned with my place then my time…until my brother informed me with a little over a half mile left that I could possibly go under 1:13. I took a glance at my watch and took off and ended up crossing the finish line in 1 hour 12 minutes 46 seconds, a PR and a course record. I was feeling good the whole race and just kept the pedal down for the second half. Everything just seemed to click and work out in my favor from start to finish. I am very pleased with my performance.
Shawn "Woodsy" Jackson--
26th Annual Bronx Biathlon - Result: 1st place overall male
This race is the longest running biathlon in America, and from the sounds of it has a long history of bad weather, but none the less the race still goes on. Our race conditions included a flooded transition area, title waves from vehicles on the Hutchinson River Parkways, 6+ inches of standing water to ride and run through and temperatures in the mid 40's. My goal for the day was not to win or have fun, but more for testing purposes. I have never raced in the rain and that was my challenge for the day. The bad weather may have deterred some people from showing up or putting in a good result but in turn was what drove me to the race. We can not control the weather so its best turn learn how best to work with it. The end result was that I did win, have fun and learned a few new tricks about the tri/ du racing.
Good job again everyone!
