The moment I hit the water my chip feel off at first I was concern but kept my cool and flanged one of the life guard and let her know that my chip fell off . I stayed cool and calm during the swim and that was a big accomplishment for me especially since I use to panic in the swim and this was the first time I did not panic (Woo Hoo!) . T1 went smoothly except that I leard to untie your lace before you start the race T2 great! by the time I crossed the finished line everyone new that # 85 had dropped her hip in the water they had to manually clock my time so I don't know what my split time is. It was a beautiful sunny warm day an athlete could have asked for a better day. :)
From Zuri Wilson-
Last Sunday I competed in the 26th Annual Bronx Biathlon. When I put this race on my schedule I read the reviews, and every single one talked about the horrible weather and how it rained on race day. Needless to say this year kept with the tradition and it down poured the entire time. The parking lot only had at most 30 cars, and no one was out side. As I headed over to register the parking lot was one huge lake, which made it impossible to keep your feet dry, and one guy even commented that I was crazy for signing up to race in this kind of weather. But the weather didn't really bother me. I had raced a whole bunch of running races in college in the rain, but never a 20 mile bike. Before I knew it it was 15 minutes until the start... not so much of a warm up, but when it's pouring rain and freezing cold you wouldn't want to get out of the car to try to warm up either. Finally it was time to start at 8 AM, then 8:15 rolled around and the NYPD said we could start. The run loop was flat and had great views on the L.I. Sound, and before I knew it, it was time for transition. My hands were cold and I struggled to get my bike shoes on but I got out of there pretty quick and it was time for the 20 mile bike. The bike was awesome (the loop, not riding in the rain), we rode on the Hutchinson River Parkway so there were only a few rolling hills. My bike went really well even with the 4 mandatory times everyone had to dismount to cross a draw-bridge. Within the last several miles my hands were completely frozen and useless. I dreaded shifting and tried not to, but then I started thinking about transition, how am I going to get my running shoes back on? I got to transition, and I couldn't get my shoes on! My legs were shaking and 4 minutes later i eventually got them on. The last run was miserable, but was over in no time. I finished 2nd overall female! Even though the weather was terrible I had a great race and was surrounded by some of the nicest athletes in the area. I will definitely put this race on my schedule for next year.
