Featured Athlete Erica Ruge - USAT Northeast Regional Championship Race Report

USAT NE Regionals- Pat Griskus Triathlon

Going into this important weekend race my body was feeling not so great. So besides being nervous about the race I was stressed that my body was not tiptop. Mental games. But I busted through and the morning of the race, I was feeling confident.

Then they shortened the swim course. Oh and now I was feeling even better!! So did my best at feeling good in the swim (which is never great). Got out and knew (as always) that I had to hammer on the bike. Hard course but I loved it, I love hills. Passed tons of people. Feeling great.

Coming out of transition, my other half yelled that there were two gals in my age group just ahead. I knew I could catch them. So off I went feeling great to be running. I passed the first girl before the turnaround in the first loop and I saw where the first girl was. Even after the hard bike I was feeling good on my run. Passed the other girl on the second loop.

After I had finished I saw that I was seconds out of 3rd overall! But I was happy with my age-group win.

I have a little work to do before Nationals in August, but I should be well prepared. And will have a few more races under my belt.

cheers
Erica Ruge
