Hudson Valley Tri at Ulster Landing was this past Sunday, with good weather on our side the race was ready to go, almost on time! The swim was a 1/3 mile Hudson River swim, so they did not allow us to warm up in the water. After lining up right next to my main competitors, I knew I was going to be in for a long day. John McGovern and Mike Halstead were at my side looking sharp and ready to go. During the swim Halstead pulled a 1 min gap ahead of McGovern and I.
Halstead and McGovern pulled a bit more time on the bike and run with McGovern taking over the lead with a dominating run, to take the victory.
I placed third overall with the taste of urgency to get my race program back on track. I need to get back on the top step of the podium, asap. These past few weeks as well as the ones ahead have some intense training with much focus on a stronger run performance and really perfecting the swim. This Wednesday is my first set of lessons with Total Immersion swimming and am really look forward to working with Mike to tighten up my swim times.
Also last week I raced Tri n Du Putnam, placing third to Team Bikeway team mate Lukas Siska and second place Michael Backer. Both great competitors.
I have this weekend off from racing and then I head up to Vermont for Xterra Race at the Rez, followed by Northern Columbia tri and then NYTRI in Harriman. I am especially looking forward to Northern Columbia due to the fact that John McGovern and I will be going head to head again as I will be fighting to beat his last years course record. Also Adam Ritter will be competing in this event and racing against him is usually a blast. Last year he crushed me on the bike at this event with me barely squeezing by him at the finish line. It was a great race and can't wait to see what he can do there this year!
